IVF injections after embryo transfer

Topic

Have you ever wondered how IVF works?

In the process of in vitro fertilization (IVF), eggs are removed from a woman’s body and mixed with sperm in a laboratory to become embryos. Which is after inserted again into the uterus for developing into a baby. Women who face challenges in conceiving natural conception may find this method very apt and useful for achieving their dream of pregnancy.

Purpose of IVF Injections After Embryo Transfer

During the IVF procedure, you may be advised to have hormonal injections which help in the formation of a mature egg from the ovaries and also stimulate it to produce more than one egg simultaneously in one cycle. Thus, creating a room for successful embryo transfer. It helps women to treat fertility issues. This process may take two weeks to complete.

After the victorious embryo transfer procedure you are advised to take hormonal injections for about ten to twelve days continuously without fail. There are four major reasons given for IVF treatment after embryo transfer are as follows:

  • Thickening your Uterine lining – For some women the endometrium seems to be very thin which leads to miscarriage or unreceptive to the embryo implantation. To avoid this, an injection is provided to thicken your endometrium lining.
  • To avoid early ovulation – During the IVF technique, specific injections are given to prevent the natural monthly cycle, stopping the ovum from being released from the ovary before maturity.
  • Stimulating ovarian follicles – It stimulates the follicles to produce more eggs and also helps them to mature.
  • Trigger Shot – The final injection in the IVF process is hCG which helps to trigger the ovulation process. Following this, your healthcare provider may do egg retrieval and embryo transfer procedures.

Types of IVF Injections Used After Embryo Transfer

Various injections play a crucial role in IVF procedures. Let us explain in detail.

  1. Human Chorionic Gonadotropin Injection (hCG):

A single cell that can be released from either one of the ovaries can be stimulated. The chance of pregnancy also increased by this injection.

  1. Progesterone Injection:

For a successful embryo transfer, the lining of the uterine wall should be clean and clear without any damage. This thin lining of the uterine wall will be thickened by this progesterone injection. It can also be used after embryo transfer procedure for nearly 90 shots per cycle. You are required to have 2 shots per day up to 10 weeks of pregnancy.

  1. Oestrogen Injection:

It elevates the process of embryo implantation in the uterine wall, also supports the endometrium thickening process, and makes it a perfect place for newly transferred embryos.

Which Time is Best for IVF Injections?

The exact timing for taking the injection is not mentioned in any of the IVF treatments. But usually, they are separated into two groups. The morning batch and the evening batch. The persons who get all their routine hormonal injections may get better results during the pregnancy period rather than those who are having injections in the evening batch.

The gonadotropin hormone injection plays a major role in this. There is no particular change in the woman who is having her gonadotropin in the morning. However, the success rate of the implantation process, and pregnancy rate can be high while having these hormonal injections in the morning phase. If you are undergoing an IVF procedure, try to have these hormonal injections in the morning phase to increase the chance of pregnancy or a successful embryo implantation process. Your healthcare provider may assist you in the whole IVF process.

Conclusion

Women who are facing fertility challenges due to these hormonal imbalances can be treated effectively with their fertility specialist. One should be physically and mentally prepared to undergo these kinds of fertility treatments. Because while undergoing these treatments you may feel so many changes in your body physically and mentally. Always look for a result, that is having a baby of your own.
