IUI procedure is painful

Topic

When a sperm fertilises an egg found in the fallopian tube, it creates a zygote which is called a conception or fertilisation. In the IUI procedure, this natural conception is done artificially. While doing this the sperm from your male partner is injected directly into the uterus of your female partner.

This is not a long process but which takes place in the hospital and your healthcare provider will supervise it. IUI is not at all a painful procedure which may take only less than an hour to complete the whole process.

Is IUI Process Painful?

Each and every woman who is ready to undergo the IUI treatment is provided with several medications before the procedure. These medicines are helpful in making a woman’s body ready for the IUI treatment. So, no one can experience pain in this simple process.

This is the crucial thing which is asked by every couple when they start their fertility journey. But you are not worried about your process because this is completely painless and you are taking this procedure under the monitor of your professional doctor.

During the process you may experience a slight pinch like inserting injection but the reality is a catheter is injected into your uterus aso the irritation may cause mild abdominal cramps for you. Don’t worry badly about your cramps, this may disappear automatically the following three days.

How long does the IUI process take?

Your healthcare provider may ask you to lie down at the examination table. You don’t need any medications or general anaesthesia to proceed this process. As it is a very simple and quick procedure you must not experience exclusive pain during this process.

It may be done within a few minutes. A washed and filtered sperm is taken into the tube and a catheter is inserted into your uterus. This may reduce the travel time taken by sperm to reach the uterus. This treatment also provides a high success rate due to its exclusive method.

Ovulation is considered as the important thing in this method. On the day of ovulation your IUI treatment may complete within a few minutes. Your healthcare provider may advise you to take some medications to induce the ovulation process either by taking medicines orally or injected into your body as injections.

It may take two weeks of time to stimulate the discharge of a mature ovum from the ovary and you need only a few minutes to complete the whole IUI treatment. The success rate of this procedure lies in the outcome result which you may see after fourteen days of your IUI treatment.

What to Expect During IUI Procedure?

IUI is done in two peculiar types. The first one is Natural IUI and the second one is Stimulated IUI.

NATURAL IUI:

In this type of IUI treatment, you are not advised to take any medications before the IUI treatment. Because it suits women who have a regular period and also have predictable ovulation cycles. This natural IUI is considered as the simplest form of IUI which does not need any fertility drugs to stimulate the ovulation.

Stimulated IUI:

In stimulated IUI treatment, your doctor may instruct you to take some fertility drugs such as FSH, LH and Clomiphene. These drugs help to stimulate the ovulation process, so that the ovum releases one or more mature eggs. When your doctor notices the ovulation time, sperms are collected from your male partner.

Within one hour of duration, after several cleaning processes, healthy sperm with high motility is injected straight into the uterus. So that the chance of fertilisation is increased and the success rate would be high.

Conclusion

If you are in the first stage of your fertility treatment, with your fertility consultant support you may start your journey with this simple treatment. Couples who are facing low sperm counts or sperm related problems may undergo this IUI treatment. Women with unexplained fertility issues also consider this procedure.

FAQs

How long does IUl pain last?

Your doctor may advise you to take medications before your IUI treatment. While undergoing treatment you may feel some abdominal pain and bleeding. Light spotting may occur for one or two days followed by your IUI procedure.

It is a super simple method in which 10% of couples achieve a success rate in the first attempt.

  • Multiple Births: Release of more than one egg while undergoing your medications.
  • The female partner must have an undamaged and clear fallopian tube to get the success rate at IUI treatment.
  • The motility of the sperm should be measured at a certain level otherwise it may not be used for IUI process.

According to medical surveys, 10% of success rate would be assured for women who are under the age 30 to 35. If they undergo treatment with medications then the percentage would increase from 15% to 25%.
